		These Core Generics are to be read in conjunction with all NZOIA awards
Abseil
	Level I	For those wishing to operate, train and instruct others in safe and effective abseil techniques excluding placement of specialised rock protection.		2 Days
Alpine
	Level I	For those who are organising and leading others on trips of 2 - 3 days duration in alpine or snow environments in all seasons, on non-technical ground (i.e.. where a rope is not normally required) and snow is normally encountered.		3 Days
	Level II	For those organising and leading others on multi-day trips in alpine environments, on technical and non-technical ground, where snow is almost always encountered, and a rope may be required to improve margins of safety. For those instructing to other alpine and outdoor instructors and leaders.		4 Days
Bush
	Level I	For those organising and leading others in 2-3 day overnight trips, either on tracks or within easy access of recognised tracks or routes below the bush-line, or on tracks above the bush-line where snow is not normally encountered. Groups would normally be using tents or huts.		3 Days
	Level II	For those organising and leading others in multi-day overnight trips into remote, un- tracked terrain extending above the bush-line, in all weather conditions and seasons, where ropes are not usually required. Groups will normally be using tents or huts and snow will not normally be encountered. For those instructing to other bush and outdoor instructors and leaders.		3 Days
Canoe
	Level I	For those who take students Tandem Open Canoeing on placid or moving water up to and including grade one. This includes estuaries, river deltas, sheltered beaches, lakes and coastal inlets with no tidal speed.		2 Days
Cave (in partnership with NZSS)
	Level I	For those who deal with students in easier caves with short pitches that can be negotiated using ladders and lifeline techniques.		2 Days
	Level II	For those teaching all aspects of caving, including SRT. For those organising and supervising caving programmes.		3 Days
Kayak (in partnership with NZRCA)
	Flatwater	For those who introduce students to kayaking in swimming pools and on placid waters. This includes estuaries, river deltas, sheltered beaches, lakes and coastal inlets with no tidal speed.		2 Days
	Level I	For those who take kayaking on moving water up to and including grade two.		3 Days
	Level II	For those teaching whitewater kayaking, developing kayaking programmes and supervising these programmes up to and including grade three whitewater.		3 Days
Multi Sport Kayak
	Level I	For those who instruct and lead multisport kayaking on flat water and moving water up to and including class II.		2 Days
Outdoor Leader (joint with EONZ / MSC)
	Level 1	For those organising and leading overnight fixed camps close to road ends and/or leading day tramps on clearly formed tracks.		2 Days
Outdoor Safety Management
	Safety Management	For those instructing others in the principles and practices of risk management either through courses, or specifically designed training for client groups that may include teachers, youth leaders, instructors, polytechnic students, adventure tourism operators, other self-employed people.		1 day with Assessor + paper work
Rock
	Climbing Wall	For people taking clients top rope climbing on artificial climbing walls, where fixed anchors are easily accessed. (It does not include abseiling).		1 Day
	Level I	For those who deal with students in top roping and abseiling situations on single pitch crags, with easy access from base to top.		2 Days
	Level II	For those teaching all aspects of rock climbing, including lead climbing. For those supervising rock climbing programmes, developing new sites, etc.		3 Days
Sea Kayak (in partnership with SKOANZ & KASK)
	~ Sea Kayak Guide	For professional sea kayak guides working in a commercial environment who take clients on kayaking trips involving coastal, lake or open water paddling. This Award is administered and assessed by NZOIA on behalf of SKOANZ		3 Days
	Level I	For those who instruct clients to become competent sea kayakers including the skills and knowledge contained in the Guides and Proficiency Awards. Candidates must hold the SKOANZ Guides award.		1 Day
	Level II	For those training sea kayak instructors, developing and managing sea kayak programmes and leading multi-day sea kayak expeditions.		3 Days
	Sea Kayak Proficiency Award	This is an entry level award to measure your personal skills before you start your pathway into guiding and instruction in the sea kayak industry. Please read the award document for full details.
