Level I |
For those who are organising and leading others on trips of 2 - 3 days duration in alpine or snow environments in all seasons, on non-technical ground (i.e.. where a rope is not normally required) and snow is normally encountered. |

For those organising and leading others on multi-day trips in alpine environments, on technical and non-technical ground, where snow is almost always encountered, and a rope may be required to improve margins of safety.

Level I |
For those organising and leading others in 2-3 day overnight trips, either on tracks or within easy access of recognised tracks or routes below the bush-line, or on tracks above the bush-line where snow is not normally encountered. Groups would normally be using tents or huts. |

For those organising and leading others in multi-day overnight trips into remote, un- tracked terrain extending above the bush-line, in all weather conditions and seasons, where ropes are not usually required. Groups will normally be using tents or huts and snow will not normally be encountered.
