Introduction

Firstly, before you book a revalidation refresher workshop for the purposes of the three yearly revalidation of your qualification, please ensure that you carefully read the NZOIA publication - "A Guide to NZOIA Qualifications' Revalidation and Registration".

It sets out in detail the options available for three yearly revalidation.   A copy of the booklet may be obtained from the NZOIA office, OR it may be downloaded as a 'PDF' file. You may also download the "Qualification Revalidation Form" that will need to be completed - please CLICK HERE for both documents.

The date by which you need to meet the three yearly revalidation requirement for each your individual qualifications is shown in your "Qualification Details" in your membership account.

Who are the revalidation refresher workshops for?

The workshops are for:
1.  the holder of a current qualification, who wishes to complete the three yearly
     revalidation of the qualification.
2.  the holder of a qualification that is NOT current, where the holder wishes to have
     the qualification reinstated (conditions apply), please read the booklet:
     - Guide to NZOIA Qualifications' Revalidation and Registration.  

Timeframe – what you need to do

The following explains the timetable for attendance at revalidation refresher workshops (assuming you choose this option to revalidate one or more of your qualifications).  It’s based on the date you passed your qualification; and if you have a number of qualifications, getting you through a revalidation programme that is manageable for you over the next three years.

1. Qualification/s gained prior to 1 July 2006
     • All qualifications must be revalidated by attending revalidation refresher workshops
        by 30 June 2012
     • A minimum of one workshop must be attended prior to 31 December 2010
     •
 If you have two or more qualifications you must attend workshops for each of
        these so that all are revalidated by 30 June 2012

2. Qualification/s gained in the year 1 July 2006 to 30 June 2007
    
 Attend a revalidation refresher workshop at any time prior to 31 December 2010

3. Qualification/s gained in the year 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008
     • Attend a revalidation refresher workshop at any time prior to 30 June 2011

4. Qualification/s gained in the year 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009
     • Attend a revalidation refresher workshop at any time prior to 30 June 2012

5. Qualification/s gained in the year 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010
     •
 Attend a revalidation refresher workshop at any time prior to 30 June 2013


Revalidation refresher workshop fees

All courses are run by NZOIA on a cost recovery basis. The fee for each individual workshop is shown on the Refresher Workshop Calendar - CLICK HERE.  The canoe / kayak courses are substantially discounted because we receive funding support from Water Safety NZ. This funding is targeted by Water Safety as part of their overall
aim of reducing water sports incidents and drowning.

APPLYING to attend a Revalidation Refresher Workshop

Applications for revalidation refresher workshops normally CLOSE SIX WEEKS prior to a workshop. We need to receive your application and course fee by the application closing date to secure your place. However an earlier indication of your intention to apply to attend a particular refresher workshop would be much appreciated.
(If places are still available after closing date, a late application may be accepted.)

Places on revalidation refresher workshops are allocated on a first in (with online application form, and fee) first accepted basis, although we will endeavour to accommodate all applications received up to application closing date.
All applications will be acknowledged by email, as they are received.

Shortly after applications close, your acceptance will be confirmed - by email, along with details of the workshop location, gear requirements, meeting place, name of assessor / trainer etc. Subject to applications received, there may be more than one workshop on the same date at the same location, and/or there may be more than one assessor / trainer present at the same workshop.

Payment of workshop fee - there are four payment options:

 1. By credit card  ~ if you select this option on the online application form, you will be automatically taken to the "payment page" once you have submitted you workshop application

2. By direct credit to NZOIA bank a/c:- BNZ Wellington - 02 0500 0480995 000
   ~  if you select this option, please ensure that you enter sufficient information in your direct credit authority to enable us to identify you and the purpose of your payment,
on our bank statement.

3. By cheque to:- NZOIA PO Box 11090 Manners Street, Wellington 6142

4. Any of the above, on receipt of invoice from NZOIA.

Workshop cancellation. If minimum numbers are not achieved the workshop may be cancelled and you will be advised of this soon after the closing date for applications.
The full fee will be refunded or you may transfer it to another workshop.

Withdrawal from a workshop.  The course fee will be refunded in full if you withdraw from a training course SIX weeks or more before the course starts, (or you can transfer the fee to another course). Fees will not NORMALLY be refunded AND ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE where the withdrawal is within SIX weeks of the course (see refund policy for details - CLICK HERE ).

Revalidation Workshop Application

The application form for a revalidation workshop needs to be completed online,
in the Members-Only section of the NZOIA website. 

The online form should take less that a couple of minutes to complete.  Please don't overlook entering the workshop name & location, and the workshop date. 
There are also some questions that must be answered yes / no, etc.

Finally, please remember to take to the workshop:- 
•  the Qualification Revalidation Form (the assessor/trainer will sign it).
•  your logbook (the assessor/trainer will wish to view it).

And after the refresher workshop, send to the NZOIA office
•  the Qualification Revalidation Form
•  a copy of your current First Aid Certificate.
-  these can be posted, faxed, or 'scanned' and sent as an email attachment.
